Ultrachiral

One of the greatest mysteries in the evolution of life on Earth is the origin of biomolecular homochirality. In collaboration with Earth Sciences, we are building a cavity ringdown spectrometer to measure enantiometric excesses of amino acids in solution. The changes in polarisation of two counter-propagating beams in the optical cavity allows us to sensitively deteect chiral molecules in the sample.
